Free guided tour through the New Cemetery

In accordance with the efforts to promote civilization and humanistic values, in addition to familiarity of an individual with the cemetery, the Public Utility Company, „Funeral Services“ – in addition to its primary activities, intensified the efforts in terms of raising awareness and promoting the extraordinary heritage, historical and monumental resources available at the New Cemetery of Belgrade – cultural and historical property of great importance for the Republic of Serbia. As an open-air museum, this exclusive area of remembrance, where the transience and eternity are brushing, by the virtue of its refined aestheticization and high artistic achievements, deserved its prestigious position within the members of the Association of Significant Cemeteries of Europe (АSCE) and was subsequently included in the European Cemeteries Route program.

In response to the significant interest of our fellow citizens to the thematic strolls organized in the course of the European Heritage Days, the New Cemetery of Belgrade will open its gates again for all interested visitors, in terms of an additional free guided tour entitled Sparkling Minds of Serbia, on Sunday, November 5, at 11:00 a.m.

This thematic stroll through the authentic, urban ambience of Belgrade is marked by indelible trail of Serbian academics – significant individuals from the fields of culture, art, science and politics. Our colleague, Violeta Obrenović, PhD, an art historian of exceptional erudition, will make sure that you see the monuments and architectural pieces from a different prospective in one of the most beautiful parks of the Serbian capital. Come and find out more about an impressive diplomat who popularized Shakespeare in Serbia, about hydro-generator constructor with as soft spot for fishing hooks and violin, on Serbian Turgenev, on a Syrmian from Bačka in  Niš, on a botanist and author of the first Serbian bestseller, on a man consumed with knowledge and reading, who also loved preferanse card game and speedy driving, in addition to many other charismatic individuals and significant persons who had conscientiously chosen Serbia over the promising international careers.
