Within the event „Days of Freedom“, and on the occasion of WWI Armistice Centenary and Commemoration of 100 years anniversary liberation of Belgrade in WWI (November 1), on November 1, 2018 the wreaths were first laid at the WWI French Military Cemetery, by the French State Secretary for Defense, Geneviève Darrieussecq, Serbian Minister for Labor, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs Zoran Đorđević and the Mayor of Belgrade dr Zoran Radojičić.
This was followed by the state ceremony of laying wraths at the WWI Memorial Ossuary of Belgrade Defenders (1914-1918), with participation of the Serbian Armed Forces Guard Squad. Subsequent to requiem service for all victims of the Great War, the wreaths were laid by the General Secretary to the President of Serbia Nikola Selaković, French State Secretary for Defense Geneviève Darrieussecq, the Mayor of Belgrade dr Zoran Radojičić, US Ambassador Kyle Scott, representative of the Embassies of Russian Federation, Great Britain Canada, Australia, Italian Defense Attaché, representatives of the Federation of Associations of Descendants of Warriors 1912-1920, including numerous organizations for fostering traditions of Serbian liberation wars (1912 to 1920).
For the first time this year, Belgrade was ceremonial than usual in the period between October 20th and November 1st, 2018. The City Administration of Belgrade, in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Armed Forces, the City Institute for the Protection of Cultural Monuments, “Dadov” Youth Theatre and numerous sponsors, organized the event entitled „Days of Freedom“, devoted to the Liberation of Belgrade in the First and Second World War and marked by the unique ten-day program for the purpose to emphasize the freedom-loving values of our capital. The most interesting of these events were: stage-musical spectacle dubbed „Belgrade Shadows“ at the plateau in front of the Belgrade City Assembly, Opening of the exhibition in the Belgrade City Hall entitled „Our History, Our Memories“ related to solidarity among Serbian and French soldiers and civilians at the tempting times of the Great War – organized by the French Embassy in Belgrade.
Public Utility Company Funeral Services Belgrade, will organize two more guided walks along the alleys and parks of the New Cemetery 2018, devoted to the Centenary of the First World War Armistice: Legendary WWI Serbian Military Commanders and Heroes Buried at the New Cemetery – November 4, 2018; Serbian She-Soldiers and Volunteer Nurses in the Great War – November 18, 2018. As a special treat, visitors will have a chance to enter the crypt of the Memorial Ossuary of Belgrade Defenders (1914-1918).
