Free Tour of the New Cemetery on June 4, 2017 within the Week of Discovering European Cemeteries

The last of the guided tours of the New Cemetery within the spring cycle of thematic walks through this cultural heritage site of great importance for the Republic of Serbia will be carried out on June 4, 2017. This thematic walk entitled „Through the Alleys of the New Cemetery” will comprise the tour of the main alleys, including major sculptural works and final resting places of significant individuals. Special attention was paid to the complexes of Arcades, Alley of the Greats, Alley of Meritorious Citizens, Alley of the Fallen Patriots, in addition to architectural features and history of the St. Nicolas Church, Burial Chapel of Field Marshal Radomir Putnik, Serbian Ossuary of Belgrade Defenders (1914-1918), Russian Ossuary, Chapel devoted to Iverska Virgin & etc. The tour is organized in the course of the Week of Discovering European Cemeteries (WDEC) organized by the Association of Significant Cemeteries of Europe, in the period between May 29 and June 4. 2017.
